Concrete driveways in Auckland

New and replacement driveways across Auckland, including excavation, base preparation, drainage, falls and vehicle crossings. What a driveway costs and how long it lasts is decided under the concrete, not on top of it.

New & replacement driveways

Excavation, base preparation, drainage, falls and vehicle crossings, quoted from the site.

Vehicle crossing included

The crossing at the street boundary is handled as part of the same job, not left as an afterthought.

Broom, exposed aggregate & coloured finishes

We'll show you recent examples of each and talk through cost, grip and how it ages.

Usually part of a larger project

Most of the driveway work we do is delivered alongside a renovation, new build or retaining wall project, rather than as a standalone job. If you do just need a driveway on its own, we're happy to quote that too.

New and replacement driveways

A replacement driveway is mostly a demolition and preparation job with a pour at the end. A new driveway on an undeveloped area is mostly earthworks and drainage. Both are quoted from the site, not from a rate card.

Removal and disposal

Breaking out and carting away the existing surface, including any unsuitable material underneath.

Excavation and base

Cut to depth, compacted basecourse, and additional depth where the ground is soft.

Drainage and falls

Set so water goes where it should. Channel drains where the levels leave no alternative.

Reinforcement and pour

Steel sized for expected vehicle loads, control joints planned rather than cut wherever.

What we assess before quoting

  • Area, shape and the turning space you actually need
  • Condition of the existing surface and what is under it
  • Access for trucks, the concrete pump and the digger
  • Falls, and where surface water currently goes
  • Vehicle loads, including whether a heavy vehicle will use it
  • Edges, garden interfaces and the garage threshold
  • The vehicle crossing at the street boundary

The vehicle crossing is not the driveway

The section between your boundary and the road is the vehicle crossing, and it sits under Auckland Transport's rules rather than being a normal part of your property. New or altered crossings need approval before the work is done. We will tell you at the site visit whether your project touches it.

What drives cost and timing

We do not publish a per-square-metre price, because the number would be wrong for most properties and it hides the preparation that actually matters.

Demolition and spoil

Volume out, and the cost of getting it off site.

Base depth

Soft or wet ground means more excavation and more basecourse.

Access

Whether the truck can reach the pour, or a pump is required.

Drainage work

Channel drains, sumps and connections into the existing system.

Finish

Broom, exposed aggregate and coloured finishes each price differently.

Weather and cure

Pours get moved for rain, and concrete needs time before vehicles go on it.

Driveway questions

Do you remove the old driveway?

Yes. Removal, disposal and preparation of the subgrade are normally part of a replacement quote.

What concrete finishes do you offer?

Broom finish, exposed aggregate and coloured concrete. We will show you what we have done recently and talk through cost, grip and how each ages.

How is the base prepared?

The subgrade is cut to depth, unsuitable material is removed, and compacted basecourse is laid to the required thickness. Skipping this is why driveways crack.

Do I need approval for the vehicle crossing?

If you are creating a new crossing or altering an existing one, yes. That part of the work sits under Auckland Transport's approval process and has to be sorted before the concrete goes in.

Can you repair or extend part of a driveway?

Sometimes. A new section will not match an old one exactly, and if the base has failed, patching buys a short amount of time. We will tell you which situation you are in.

How long before we can drive on it?

Foot traffic comes first, vehicles later. We give you the specific dates for your pour, because it depends on the mix and the weather.

How it works

1. Tell us about the driveway: Approximate dimensions, new or replacement, and a photo from the street.

2. Site visit: Wwe check access, falls, the existing surface and the vehicle crossing.

3. Quote prepared: Normally within around three to five business days of the visit.

Discuss your driveway

Approximate dimensions, whether it is new or a replacement, and a photo from the street is a good start.
